Dear Jairo,
 
First, thank you for your correspondence which I am sharing with my friend and colleague, Curtis Wong.
 
Second, I'm sorry that I don't speak spanish, I wish I did, for I do love the language. I think languages are a gift, but like like you, unfortunately I don't have the gift for languages.
 
I have shared your treatment of "Alba en la Yakuza" with my friend Curtis, for his input. Curtis and I have been looking for a project that we could do together.
 
With your approval Curtis and I plan to discuss the project with Jackie Chan and his production group to ascertain whether this might be a project that Jackie's group might support. Both Curtis and I will be in Hong Kong from October 24th through October 28th and will meet on the project.
 
Here are some thoughts that I have discussed with Magali, Marcella and Curtis.
 
1. In terms of texture or "look of the picture", I think what would work is to capture the same pacing and feel of pictures like Tony Scott's MAN ON FIRE and Stephen Soderburgh's TRAFFIC.

2. The style of these films bring an "urgency" to the subject matter.

3. Please have a look at both films, if you haven't seem them and give me your thoughts on this.

4. Given the treatment I read, it strikes me that a good proportion of the shoot will take place in Japan with a second unit in Columbia. Interiors of course can be done anywhere, but geographically it would make sense economically to do these in Japan or Hong Kong.

5. Have you figured an overall budget yet? If so, what do you think the budget would be?

6. Could this be set up as a co-production between Japan, Columbia and Hong Kong?

7. What is the status of the script?

8. I was giving some of my personal thoughts to Magali in terms of the storyline. The lead needs the empathy of the audience, and redemption is a tremendous tool to achieve this. The story should play as a powerful drama, of conflict, betrayal, humanity and redemption, and not of course, necessarily in that order. I can visualize several aspects of this story, but of course these thoughts are academic, until I see a script.

9. I have no hang-ups about you directing, it is after all, your concept, a story you want to tell. However I would suggest the assistance of someone very familiar in the ways of the Yakuza, and working with Japanese actors in order to bring a sense of reality to the story.

10. Do you have a showreel that emphasizes your work on a cassette or DVD that we can show to Jackie's group in Hong Kong.

11. Curtis and I might discuss possible financing with a Japanese entity, pending their interest in the project.
